SCIENCE PROCLAIMS CAUSE AND EFFECT. WE PROCLAIM SPIRITUAL INTENTION, AND THAT IS OUR DESTINY WE MUST BE EVER MINDFUL OF THIS. OUR VERY SENTIENCE IS OUR DESTINY. WE FIND MEANING IN OUR SPIRITUALITY AND IN OUR SENTIENCE. AND IT IS OUR SENTIENCE, OUR SPIRITUAL AND SACRED BEING THAT GIVES MEANING TO THE UNIVERSE, TO THE ALL. WE AWAKEN TO THIS TRUTH AND DO THEREBY BECOME SPIRITUALLY AWAKENED. WE AWAKEN TO THIS TRUTH AND DO THEREBY TOUCH THE SACRED, MYSTICAL AND SPIRITUAL PURPOSE OF OUR OWN LIVES AND OF THE ALL. OUR SPIRITUAL QUEST IS TO AWAKEN OURSELVES AND THEREBY TAKE PART IN THE AWAKENING OF THE ALL. AND WITH THIS AWAKENING, SO SHALL COME OUR SPIRITUAL HEALING OF OURSELVES, OF EACH OTHER, OF OUR COMMUNITIES AND OF OUR MOTHER EARTH, OUR HOLY GAIA.
For centuries our modern world has been proclaiming the power of physical cause and effect. And in many respects our world has been right so to proclaim. For the scientific revolution, which underpins the revolutions in physics, chemistry, and most importantly of engineering, has achieved remarkable results, and has benefited humanity immensely. But there is a shadow side to our scientific and mechanical success. There is, for a start, our world, our Mother Earth, our sacred Gaia. If we place too much emphasis on physical cause and effect, on a mechanical view of ourselves, our world, our environment, and our universe, then we and our Planet Earth and all the flora and fauna of our Mother Earth are diminished: side-lined at best, despoiled at worst. Science has been one of humanity’s greatest achievements, but when it leads us to ignore our very sentience – the fact that we have life and awareness and purpose that transcends mere cause and effect – then we and all that we hold dear are in mortal danger. Our destiny is not ever more powerful science. Our destiny ultimately has to be the development of our own consciousness, our own awareness of all of life; indeed, our awareness that there is nothing on Earth and nothing in the universe that is entirely devoid of consciousness. We are sacred. We are spiritual beings. We are beings who endow ourselves and our world with meaning. And everything in our world is also sacred. To treat anyone or anything as not being sacred is to commit a great spiritual injustice, and in one terminology at least, a great spiritual sin. Recognising our own sentience, and recognising the innate sentience of everything – of the ALL – is our hope for our own healing and the healing of our Mother Earth, our Gaia, but is also our destiny. For our destiny is not mechanical. It is SPIRITUAL.
The scientific and philosophical revolution that occurred around the 16th and 17th centuries, saw the triumph of the principle of the first cause, or efficient causality. In other words explanations regarding how the world worked and indeed what the world was, were essentially grounded onthe principle that ‘D’ was caused by a prior event ‘C’, and that both ‘D’ and ‘C’ could ultimately be explained by prior event ‘B’ and so on. This was, without any doubt, a powerful and profound insight, that has led to a previously unimaginable awareness of how things work, and of course has led to our scientific and technological progress that has transformed the world and indeed for many people has transformed lives for the better. It is possible, however, that we are nearing a crucial and fundamental tipping point in which we become aware that although efficient causality is a crucial factor in the universe and indeed in our lives, it does not explain everything about us and our world. Let us face it. Being alive makes us complicated. So long as we see some sort of purpose in what we do, in other words that not all that we do can be explained through efficient causality, or more to the point through machine-like mechanisms, then suddenly we begin to grasp something fundamentalabout ourselves, and indeed about the very world and universe in which we live. The natural world, which must be seen as including ourselves, may no longer be viewed as belonging to the realms of magic, but it and we have to be viewed as being ‘magical’. It is not difficult for us to accept that the animal kingdom – which includes us – is sentient, is conscious, is aware and often self-aware.Sentience and purpose – in philosophical speak that is teleological processes; in other words the concept of the final cause in what happens rather than just the efficient cause in philosophy speak – not only offers insights into ourselves and our world and how we and all of it works, but it also points us to the higher purpose of us and our world. If we and our world are essentially mechanistic, then there is no purpose. But if we and the world in which we live are as much moved by purpose as we are by what happens to us, and if we can accept that and be aware of that, then we stand at last upon the threshold, the tipping point, of a greater awareness of what we and all of creation is. Ourvery sentience is the key. Our purpose is to become mindful of, and embrace, and become ONE with the sentience of everything, the sentience of the ALL.
Long ago we were told this:
God sleeps in the mineral,
Dreams in the vegetable,
Stirs in the animal,
And wakes in man.
This should be the mantra of our time. In this is everything we need to know about our purpose and spiritual destiny. If we can live by this mantra, if we can know at last that all life is sacred and holy, that even that which might appear to be devoid of life is sacred and holy, then we can be onthe very threshold of our individual and global initiation into our sacred purpose. We must know – spiritually know – that every man woman and child on our Mother Earth is sentient, precious, sacred and Holy, and should be treated as such. Likewise all the flora and fauna of our Mother Earth, our Holy Gaia, are sentient, aware in their own way and within their own evolutionary confines, and are sacred and holy and precious to themselves and precious to God. We maynot always realise it, but we are all deep-set in a profound mystical; and sacred quest towards knowledge of ourselves, knowledge of each other, and knowledge of God. And we never walk on this quest alone. All of humanity walks with us, all the grasses of the fields and the beasts of the mountains walk with us. And our Mother Earth, our Holy Gaia, knows us, cherishes us, lives and dreams with us, and physically and spiritually nourishes us. For we are her precious children,no less. These are the days of our spiritual awakening, the days of our sacred and mystical unfolding: into a deeper sense of the meaning of our very existence, and the meaning of our purposes and destinies.
Peer, holy pilgrim, as you stand upon the threshold of your deep awareness, peer into the infinite eternity of the cosmos, imbibe the beauty of the stars, of the heavens, and know that we are forever more than the sum of the parts of our physical selves, that we are spiritual pilgrims upon our sacred and mystical quests. Peer into the stars, and know it!
Science proclaims cause and effect.
We ourselves proclaim intention.
We must be ever mindful of this.
Our very sentience is our destiny.
