THE KARMIC FEROCITY OF WAR, AND OUR SPIRITUAL AWAKENINGS. WAR IS A TEST, KARMIC IN ITS FEROCITY: SINS WASHED CLEAN IN BLOOD; SINS COMMITTED IN THE LUST FOR BLOOD; PAST SINS THE CAUSE OF THE BLOOD. WAR CAN HAVE A PROFOUND SPIRITUAL PURPOSE, BUT ONLY IF IT TEACHES US THROUGH PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL PAIN THAT OURS PAST WAYS HAVE CONTRAVENED THE GREAT SPIRITUAL AND SACRED LAWS OF THE COSMOS. ALL IS ONE, AND WHEN WE ACT AS INDIVIDUALS OR NATIONS IN CONTRAVENTION OF THAT GREAT SACRED AND SPIRITUAL TRUTH OF ALL CREATION, THEN THERE ARE KARMIC CONSEQUENCES. THAT IS THE SPIRITUAL LESSON THAT WE MUST LEARN TO HEED AND ACCEPT.
The images of war are seared into our individual and group consciousnesses. We can so easily make idols in our minds and in our souls of war; yet war itself can so often make a mockery of our innate sanctity, of our innate holiness, of our very humanity. Great spiritual leaps in our agelong quests for spiritual enlightenment and awakening can be made within the terrible testing of war. Yet the very wars that can test us, and hurtle us forward in our spiritual development, are themselves the consequences of our spiritual failures in the past:
Great nobility can be gained in the awful spiritual testing of war, yet so too can awful deeds and thoughts engendered by war corrupt and besmirch our souls and our minds.
And what of our Mother Earth, our beloved and precious Gaia, in such times of pain and conflict? Terrible are the pains that can be inflicted upon our blue-jewel planet that bears us within the depths of space. We are no longer children innocent of how we treat the very Mother Earth that has nurtured us though our long ages of slow spiritual growth and slow spiritual awakening. We are no longer just her children. We should be her grown-up children, who at last turn to the Mother in our awakening, in our emergence from childhood and spiritual adolescence, to hold Her and care for Her at last.
The blood-red vividness of the awful spiritual experiences of war should at last be awakening us to our responsibilities for ourselves towards each other, and our spiritual responsibilities towards our planet. We know that war must be avoided. We probably recognise that it is not necessarily the case that war should be avoided at all costs. One of the tragedies of human existence is that sometimes the alternative to going to war is more dangerous, or more heinous, than the war itself. Within war, we can be led into perpetrating dreadful acts. Within war, we can be tested in ways we never would have been tested if there had been no war. Within war we can find ourselves being tested to the point of extreme bravery and extraordinary nobility. War is life writ larger and more fearsome than most of us would ever want. We can incur considerable karma when at war. We can also be ‘paying off’ karma when at war. Also, and we forget this at our peril, the events and deeds that lead us to war are rarely the prime movers – the essential causes – of war. War that can lead us into heightened bouts of karmic shifting, is itself the karmic consequence of past, and sometimes even long-forgotten, acts and thoughts. At the end of the day we must never lose sight of the factthat everything in our lives is spiritually significant. Not a moment of ourlives is not part of the sacred mystical quest of our individual and collective spiritual pilgrimages. War achieves very little unless it involves us in someway in a spiritual unfolding, in a spiritual awakening. The tragedy of war can be profoundly important to us if we can but learn the lessons from it, and the most important lesson we can learn is that war is that consequence of past deeds, of spiritually karmic significance. War can plunge us into even greater karmic tragedy, or we can transcend war, spiritually grow from war, learn spirituallessons from war that will enhance our own sacred and mystical progressions and indeed that of all humanity.
War is a test, karmic in its ferocity:
Sins washed clean in blood;
Sins committed in the lust for blood;
Past sins the cause of the blood.
